A. GENERAL ORGANISATION

Currently, the historical site of the Abbaye royale Saint-Michel de Bois-Aubry is a private family site managed by one of those passionate about old buildings as we see in these television programs " the hard life of the castle" . But here, the lord is more a passionate pseudo-abbot than authoritarian. He deals with the frock of the handyman and a natural tonsure (alas, we're not getting younger ...!) rather than in a purple cape and crown pump ...

The Abbaye de Bois-Aubry : a family affair … (Photo MOG and C.VDH.)

In the future we envision at the Abbey, with the limited resources that are ours, gradually diversify our business by giving them the appropriate legal forms.Thus, different ways are being explored, both in regard to an appropriate distribution of land (the Abbey itself as a historical monument, the private cemetery of the Abbey with the tomb of Yul Brynner, the area of farm and its swimming pool, private area of occupancy), as regards the activities envisaged (holiday; tours; events; activities; sécurisation, restauration, conservation of the site; products; other).

Today we can confirm that there are 3 main groups of activities organised on the site:  the activities regarding the holidays ("Gîtes" and swimming pool), the guided visits (tours) of the site (Historical monument and cemetery), and the activities of securisation, restoration and conservation of the site.  These last activities, and the obligation to find funds to support them, have brought us to create an "association": the ASSOCIATION ABBAYE ROYALE SAINT-MICHEL DE BOIS-AUBRY

This Association, which was created on the 21th. of July 2009, has been officialy declared at the Sous-préfecture of Chinon, and officially published in the french official journal (J.O.) of the 8 of August 2009 (J.O., Lois et décrets, Associations, 141e année, n°32, 8  août 2009, p.3851, n°652).

The purpose of the Association, as published in the official journal is: Analysis, conception, development and management of specific programs of securisation, safeguard, restoration, maintenance, conservation and revalorisation of the classified monument of the Abbaye, but also of the site of the Abbaye; Research, and cession of documents, management and transmission of studies, advices and opinions to the owner; Studies, development, management and control, in relation with the competent official authorities, regarding research and archéological excavations; publication; Defense and protection of the historical monument; Defense, protection and conservaiton of the monument and of the site in relation and direct collaboration of the local authorities (Municipalité de Luzé).  Active research of donators(grants, gifts), sponsors, patrons in order to get the adapted funds"

For all information regarding this association: Tel.: 00 33 (0)2 47 58 37 11 or Mail: contact@abbayeboisaubry.com

We hope that the ideas and the facts will rapidly progress on those divine places where time destroyer should now no longer have any control.

Of course, any ideas, support or volunteer involvement in research or the implementation of the above points are welcome.

14. A.B.A.,Surrounded by red, the Porterie Farm, located north east of the tower to the fifteenth and oue

The Porterie, located at the foot of the tower of the Abbaye Royale de Bois-Aubry, date it as of the fifteenth century. In his book "The archaeological Touraine *, R. Ranjard reported that "North of the tower, a wide open door hanger, a postern of the same design, both topped with badges logs, open backed into a wall of jagged foothills, which leads to a large cylindrical towerette muraille and this tower dates alsow from the XVième ». Unfortunately the aliasing is gone, the Porterie presents still , north-east sight, two archers strangling,
that reflect the character fortified abbey in the fifteenth century - if the cylindrical tower was demolished in 1945 to 1955-testimony of former owners of that time and if it appears finally that the "patches" have been very recently stolen-testimony of former owners on site who have reminded us that these flowers were lilies - the Porterie still, and the door charretière the postern and its foothills.
15. A.B.A., the Porterie (Photo MOG, march 2009) | 16. A.B.A., the Porterie at the foot of the dome off work XV (Photo MOG, march 2009)

The Cottage opens at ground floor, a very pleasant living room in stone, including a series of original elements (low doors, fireplace, rustic garden, stone sink) and quality ( beams and joists in oak, tiles, decorative elements in various stone) highlighted by a lighting. This living room, which opens in the master bedroom, a kitchen adjacent to which the design and comfort (central island, modern equipment and complete) blend perfectly with the old stone (archer, joists, columns decorative tiles , wood stove).

On the floor, the stairway opens onto a small room open oak floor, a nice bathroom (large tiled shower-type mini-steam bath, large double sink, toilet) and also a master bedroom floor. As mentioned previously, the latter opens in mezzanine and stone on the show, giving the whole a perfect holiday atmosphere. Finally, a hidden staircase overlooks a mini-mini-mezzanine/attic ... the perfect spot for grumpy little children or excess baggage.

A private garden, unique closed hedges or walls, adjacent to the cottage. This allows, in all privacy, to relax (barbecue and garden furniture available), while enjoying the view of the Monastery, the green spaces surrounding the portal of the Abbey and its bell tower. A covered parking space, located on site within walking distance of the cottage, will allow guests to leave their car parked safely jardin privatif, cadre unique clos de haies ou de murs, jouxte le gîte.

On the other hand, Porterie is really close to the heated swimming pool (June-September), including the sound of the fountain will delight you at nap time.

The characteristic gîte, the Porterie is historically the home of the brother-porter de l'Abbaye de Bois-Aubry. Rule of St. Benedict in effect provided in chapter 66: "At the door of the monastery, we put an old sound, that can receive and make the response and which preserves the maturity to walk everywhere. This door should have a box near the door, so that arrivals are always someone there to answer them. As soon as a hit or a poor will be called , he would reply: "Dea gratias" or "Benedicite" and with all the sweetness of the fear of God, he will hasten to answer in the fervor of charity. If the door needs help, he will have with him a younger brother ..."**

B3. Gîte le GRENIER A GRAINS (4 Stars)

Historically, we believe that the building, which we provisionally qualified "Grenier à grain " * should be part of the XV and the XVIIth century. It lies east of "the corridor, vaulted a broken cradle, connecting the interior courtyard to the outdoor courtyard of the monastery "** and the" kitchen religion "**, and adjacent to a tower which can still read traces open both on the ground that in its western façade. As the cylindrical corner tower that once adjoined the Porterie, this tower was probably a tower rectangular. It included a staircase similar to that which can still collect the fingerprint in the octagonal tower south of the Hotel des conversation. Unfortunately, this tower, as the oral testimony of a son of the owner of that era, was demolished in the years 1945 to 1955 so that, by re-using materials with which it was conceived more than five hundred years ago , filling the yard and driveway access leading to it ... You can still detect some features of this tower on old photographs of the Abbey.

The Gîte du Grenier à grains is listed 4 stars (official national ranking), and is member of the label "Parc Naturel Régional Loire-Anjou-Touraine" (listed "coup de coeur")

Le Gîte, which borders to the south "outdoor courtyard of the convent" ** where "is still the well of the monastery" ** opens, on the ground floor, a very pleasant stay in small living room in stone including a series of bright berries and elements of quality (low doors, interior shutters, oak lintels, tiles, stone) highlighted by adapted lighting. It should be noted that this small salon, which includes a sofa bed to accommodate a possible passage guest, communicated, through an opening inside (like a bar / american kitchen) and two side openings, a nice kitchen with modern comforts (modern equipment and complete island to both table and bar) combined perfectly with the old stone.
21. Photo dating from the first half of XXth century, still representing the South East Tour

A circular staircase leads to a kind open floor loft where a large room (2 persons bed and a trundle bed) adjacent bathroom comfort from central bath (shower, bathtub, sink, toilet) separated from it by a beautiful farm (poutraison) old. Overlooking the bathroom, mezzanine, bedroom (one bed for 2 people) you into the tops of the beams. While stone and heavy timber revive the side of historic places, the mezzanine design, the "open space" and the lighting system provide a modern hand, and friendly holiday to all.

A small private garden, enclosed by all young hedges, adjoins the cottage. This allows, in all privacy, to relax (barbecue and garden furniture available), while enjoying the view of the south apse of the abbey, its annexes (well, Porterie, etc..) and green spaces.

A covered parking space, located on the site within walking distance of the cottage, will allow guests to leave their vehicle in secured parking.

On the other site, this house is located just steps from the heated swimming pool (June-september), including the sound of the fountain will delight you during the nap.

Finally, for safety, this cottage is not suitable for small children.

However, as mentioned in the previous point, some activities could be held outdoors, or in a marquee under the cloister of the Abbey ... under study.

Anyway, we keep our clients regularly informed of developments in our reflections and progress in this subject.

F. OTHER ACTIVITIES

F1. SIGHT ON THE RESTORATION OF HISTORIC MONUMENT

Long neglected and / or abused, the Abbaye de Bois-Aubry itself (MH) would require a double emergency restoration program.

48. A.B.A., view from the south, sunflowerfield (Photo MOG, july 2007)

The first program would be on one part, to secure the site and secondly, to keep them in their current state, thus avoiding any further deterioration. The second is, however, to engage in a genuine progressive restoration of the listed parts.

As very recent owners of the places we explored the site and gradually tired to establish some contacts with the administrative authorities, as well as some political authorities. These contacts are, so far, remained unproductive. Hope that in future we will be able to transmit our passion...

49. A.B.A., modillon (Photo MOG, april 2008)

However, we wish here to thank Madam the Mayor of Luzé (and here communal team ), which has always reserved a warm welcome and was able to share our enthusiasm by demonstrating listening, understanding, advice, professionalism and constructive support on our requests.

50. A.B.A., modillon (Photo MOG, nov.2008)

On the other hand, we also wish to thank Mr. Christian Gilbert that we were honored to meet friendly on site several times. Christian Gilbert, scholar and author of two great artistic and historical studies relating to the Abbey Saint-Michel de Bois-Aubry, is probably so far the best scientific reference on the historical, architectural and artistic of the Abbay.

F2. RELATIVES RESTAURATIONS TO THE GITES

In the future, and taken into account our limited resources, we plan to progressively restore any additional gîte in the annex buildings of the outer court of the Abbey. Our goal is to preserve this cultural heritage and to revive these places with the few resources we have. We hope that the resources found in an annex restored cottage will restore another, and so on...

F3. EXCAVATIONS AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH

We believe in the future development of research and archaeological excavations at the site of the Abbey. We believe in fact that many parts of the site are still unknown and still is a good mystery.

N

59. A.B.A., Plan DRAC, Situation of the dragging at the Abbaye de Bois-Aubry, 1991

These excavations will enable us to update the foundations of old buildings that have disappeared, tounderstand better the functionality of some other, or to pinpoint the stages of construction / destruction that have succeeded over the centuries. We would probably also find some objects of daily monastic life of the past, some work of art (sculpture, painting, etc..) religious of character, having escaped the havoc of time, some falls or lying abandoned for eternity, some crypt or subterranean cave sadly forgotten ...We hope that the Association Abbaye Royale Saint-Michel de Bois-Aubry (A.A.R.S.M.B.A.) will do a good job in this matter.

We do, however, have no knowledge or experience in this area. Any volunteer help or experience that you could bring (legal, authorities, clubs, organization, school projects, interested universities, budgets, etc..) would, of course, be welcome. Don't hesitate to join the A.A.R.S.M.B.A.!

G. HELPING US

G1. GRANTS, GIFTS, PATRONAGE

As indicated in the "F1. SITE RESTORATION OF HISTORIC MONUMENT, l' Abbaye de Bois-Aubry has over time been neglected, abused, looted, neglected and often forgotten.

73. A.B.A., deposit pithy fortune, progressive classification(Photo MOG, sept 2007) | 74. A.B.A., Igor on scaffolding (Photo MOG, oct. 2007)

We wish with all our heart give life to this wonderful project, head held high, rebroadcast the future generations with a whole "monumental" in our history, our architecture, our art, our culture.

Also, the Abbey itself, as a historical monument, requires does a double emergency restoration program. The first program in two phases, would be to secure the scene and then maintain in this state. The second seeks to initiate a genuine progressive restoration of all parties.

Our requests for aid from the authorities concerned are so far remained low productif, we believe we have to gradually move towards a system for financial support, namely a system of appeal for donations and sponsorship from individuals or legal persons like private companies or institutions, to help us with this cumbersome task that we have imposed

 For this reason, in conformity to what we have mentioned in the point  "A.General organisation" , 2 associations have bee"n created: ASSOCIATION ABBAYE ROYALE SAINT-MICHEL DE BOIS-AUBRY (A.A.R.S.M.B.A.) and ASSOCIATION DES AMIS DE L'ABBAYE DE BOIS-AUBRY

73. A.B.A., Hôtellerie des convers, floor completely disappeared, the need of restoration

Certain renovations have priority or are fundamental to the stability of the building:
76. A.B.A., Fortified part of the XVth century, progressive cracking problem required security | 77. A.B.A., portal reflectory, ciurrent situation (Photo MOG, jan.2007) | 78. A.B.A., portal reflectory today disappeared for the Cloister Museum in NY

1. consolidation of the soil and the southern wall of the Dortoir of the monks, as well as piles of the entry Couloir of the monks. Indeed, the plundering of the floor tiles of the dormitory and foundation piles of the corridor directly contributed to destabilize the structure of this building, which obviously makes the task not evident...

2. refend the wall of the nave, on which the rood screen and the vault of the nave and two side spans of the foothills south of the nave. The wall and the foothills have once been many refinements, surveys *, etc.. which seem not to have been particularly favorable...

3. various works on building the Hôtel des convers where floor (poutraison / tiles) and the small courtyard entry also appeared to have been looted, looting directly affecting the stability of the structure of this property ... This again makes not the task of restoration;

4. various minor work and jointers octagonal tower on the south, and the fortified part of the XVthe century;

5. various urgent roof constructions (repairs and maintenance) on the Abbey, the monks dormitory and Hôtellerie

79. A.B.A., under house shoring, Roman column, seated fendues (Photo MOG, | 80. A.B.A., Hôtel des convers, detail, and the remains of undergoing staircase (janv.2007)

Other work, if possible, make some earlier work of restoration more useful than they were. Take, for example, the consolidation of the foundations of the house which the vaults have been restored before, unfortunately, to consolidate the foundations of the central battery, which required, thereafter, the sub was in this room.

.

81. A.B.A., Octagonal tower on the west side, in dangerous condition, to restore promptly

Finally, the actual restoration work to achieve, are extremely heavy:

1. consolidation and restoration of the l'Abbatiale combined (stabilization of the structure, restoration of walls, floors, vaults, windows remplages of the frame and roof, the roof covering the north apsidioles requiring complete restoration);

2. restoration of the kitchen (stabilization of the structure and complete restoration of the ground and secured to the roof); e

3. restoration of the Hôtellerie (stabilization of the structure and the foothills of emergency, restoration of soil and the fireplace, complete restoration of the floor and the beams, roof restoration)

4. complete restoration of the Dortoir des moines, including the basement, walls and the roof;

5. end of the restoration of the Salle capitulaire ;

6. Restoration of the joists and floor of the Clocher.

In reading this daunting task, you probably understand why we have decided to appeal for DONATIONS and SPONSERSHIP of individuals or associations or public (institutions) to help us.

*André Montoux relates,in an article entitled "L’ancienne abbaye de Bois-Aubry" :as for the wall, built to close the aisle after her amputation, she drowned her in the face brickwork of the pillars of Western rood screen that surveys, along each arch, helped to show ... Unfortunately stop there because a release would cause the complete collapse of the wall ... "(Montoux, A.," The old abbey of Bois-Aubry, in Bulletin of the Archaeological Society of Touraine, T.
